The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (DRM) is the
only rehabilitation center in the country that offers complete and comprehensive
services to meet the dynamic needs of patients with disabilities. From
its humble beginnings in 1953, the department has evolved into a multidisciplinary
facility that promotes a “quality of life” approach in patient
management. Using the combined expertise of multiple health professionals,
comprehensive care is delivered through an individualized, goal-oriented
approach. The department offers non-surgical treatment in the management
of acute and chronic medical conditions, musculoskeletal conditions and
various disabilities.

The department boasts of an array of basic and state
of the art Rehabilitation services, reaching to almost all types and ages
of patients. Aside from special diagnostic techniques such as electrodiagnostic
studies (EMG & NCV) and cystometrogram (CMG), the department offers
multiple treatment options in the management of patients. These include
therapeutic exercises, manual medicine, orthotics and prosthetics, biofeedback,
intraarticular and botox injections, physical, occupational, & speech
therapy and psychological intervention in rehabilitation. Its specialized
programs, such as Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pain and Arthritis Care, Geriatric
and Pediatric Rehabilitation, ensure that patients and their families
are provided with optimum care.
It continues to set the standard of excellence as the
model disciplinary facility in preventive, primary and rehabilitative
care of the differently-abled. The department has developed holistic programs
and strategies to improve rehabilitation services, training and research
consistent with the mission and vision of the Philippine General Hospital.
