General Summary
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology, in consonance with the goals of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and the Philippine General Hospital, is committed to excellence and leadership in the field of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. Aside from the Department’s efforts in giving quality patient care, service, and training, various activities are also held to promote a culture of community-oriented, evidence-based research.
Workshops on research question generation, searching the literature, critical appraisal, research methodology, and statistical analysis, are held in preparation for the two annual department research contests, namely, the Interesting Case Contest, and the Resident’s Research Forum. This groundwork has produced a crop of researches exemplified by numerous interesting case papers, several of which, have been presented in two international subspecialty conventions; one paper was subsequently presented to the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Annual Analytic Research Contest and won 1st place.
More than winning research contests, the Department realizes that these researches should ultimately translate into improving the health of the Filipino people, and we will continue to strive to do so.
