General Summary
The research and publications arm of the Department organized various activities to strengthen mentoring and to improve the quality of research output of resident trainees and fellows. Many research-related workshops and lectures were conducted in preparation for and to guide the residents and fellows in conducting their studies. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) workshop and other EBM related topics were given to the fellows and residents. Various research protocol presentations and research updates were held in all year levels so that residents’ researches may be well supervised in all stages of planning and implementation. Faculty who were trained in research methods and epidemiology were tapped for these supervisory roles. Criteria for the evaluation of research output were also re-assessed and modified by the Research Committee. Documentation and cataloguing of research output were done; a compendium of research abstracts for 2008 was created during the annual research week. Graduating residents and fellows’ researches were submitted to various research contests and societies. There were a number of researches that were awarded and presented in conventions. Technical support was also provided by the Department through accessibility of wireless internet access within the Department complex and subspecialty offices.
