UP-PGH DENTAL EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN HOSPITAL DENTISTRY
The Externship Training Program in Hospital Dentistry is a full-time, comprehensive competency enhancement training program open to licensed dentists who have passed the qualifying examinations and formal interview given by the Department of Hospital Dentistry. The training focuses on the fields of Oral Surgery, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, Dental Care of Patients with Special Needs, Dental Oncology, and Dental Traumatology.
The program was conceptualized to enable dentists to hone critical thinking, enhance diagnostic ability, develop surgical skills, and participate in multidisciplinary management of patients to deliver a more comprehensive treatment for the well-being of patients.

Selection Process
The following are requirements for admission into the externship training program:
- Must be a Filipino citizen
- Obtained a Degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine from an accredited college or university.
- Passed the Licensure Examination for Dentists conducted by the Board of Dentistry of the Professional Regulation Commission
Applicants with the following characteristics shall be considered for admission:
- With good moral character
- In good physical health
- With good personality and attitude
- The applicant secures an application form from the Department of Hospital Dentistry.
- The completed form is submitted to the same office together with the following required documents:
- Completed application form
- Two (2) 2”x2” pictures
- Certified true copy of the applicant’s Transcript of Records
- Certified true copy of Diploma
- Certified true copy of Board Rating (Dentistry)
- Certified true copy of Certificate of Registration from the PRC
- Medical Certificate stating that the applicant is physically and mentally fit to undergo the training program
- Two (2) accomplished letters of recommendation, one of which must come from the Dean of the Dental School from which the applicant graduated. Both letters must be addressed to the Chair of the Department of Hospital Dentistry, sealed and countersigned.
- A one-page (A4 size) double-line spaced essay using 12-point Times New Roman describing why the applicant is seeking admission

Incomplete, incorrect and/or falsified application requirements will forfeit the applicant’s chances for admission.
The completed form and required documents are submitted no later than three (3) working days prior to the examinations. There are 4 periods of admission per year.

- The applicant takes the examination and formal interview.
In order to qualify for admission, the applicant should:
- Pass the evaluation examination with a grade of at least 60%
- Submit to an initial interview conducted by a panel consisting of one representative from the service, training, and research coordinating body
- Submit to a final interview with the Chair of the Department
